BLACKBOARD CHALKS VS. LCD PROJECTORS

This year is the year for gadgets as they boom in our market today making everyone to add 1 or 2 items in their wish list. Here are some of the gadgets that people want it their wish list.

  • IPAD
  • SMART PHONES
  • NOTEBOOK or
  • LAPTOP
  • DSLR (digital single lens reflex) CAMERA
As the gadget boom today’s generation, students want to study in different way, a way that they will be entertained and not be bored, but how would a teacher change the way she teach if she is using a chalk and blackboard, how would she compete in today’s teaching method.

Have you ask yourself “what is the history of blackboard chalks and lcd projectors?””how did they evolve?”

THE HISTORY OF LCD PROJECTOR AND HOW IT EVOLVED

one of the oldest LCD projector
In the year 1984 the first LCD projector was made by Gene Dolgoff, but there are some technical malfunctions in the LCD projectors like major light losses and noticeable pixels. In 1988 the first LCD projector Company was established it is called the projectavison incorporated.

opaque projector

The Opaque Projectors - One of the earliest forms of projection,
the opaque projector, allows the user to project printed material or
small objects without having to Convert them to another medium. For
example if you want to present your presentation in the meeting or in
the class, you put the paper or book in the upper part of The opaque
projector. And the projector then it will project to the wall

slide projector

Next is the Slide Projectors – it is available in the market in the midst 1950’s to 1960’s.Unlike the opaque projector the slide projector is needed to convert your file into a smaller film, and insert the films in the projector

overhead projectors

The third is the overhead projectors –it is commonly used in the church or school reporting, it works when you put the acetate sheet into its glass.

computer projectors

The fourth will be Computer Projectors – the 100% fully digital projector that came in the early 1990's and served primarily as a computer display projector for business, education and training.

home theater projector

Next would be the Home Theater Projectors - this is made to make your entrainment room more exiting, it is like a cinema house inside your own room, it can project in 100+ inches wall plus you can save more money if you buy a plasma TV.

The last and latest LCD projector was the pocket projector you can use this anytime anywhere, you don’t need laptops or notebooks you just need an iPod or flash disk to have your report to be well done.
“THE REPORT  IS IN OUR HANDS”

THE HISTORY OF BLACKBOARD CHALKS AND HOW IT EVOLVED

Did you remember the time when we first enter our classroom as cute little pupils? The very first thing we saw is the blackboard. It is a big sheet of wood framed so it won’t crack, it can be used in writing using chalks

The term "blackboard" dates from around 1815 to 1825 while the newer and predominantly American term, "chalkboard" dates from 1935 to 1940. The chalkboard was introduced into the US education system in 1801.

To a student or to a teacher, when you talk about chalk it readily comes to their minds a piece of white or sometimes colored which is  used for writing and drawing on a blackboard. A chalk is a piece of chalk or chalklike substance in crayon form, used for marking on a blackboard or other surface. The chalk is the primary tool of the teacher in writing and giving lessons using the blackboard. Although nowadays there are many tools that a teacher can use in imparting knowledge or giving lectures and lessons but the chalk is the most affordable tool that a teacher can use. To make the chalk more favorable to use as a writing instrument, a dustless chalk was created to minimize allergic reactions to the ordinary chalks. Colored chalks are also readily available to be used for illustrations or drawings that need to be in colors.

Aside from teachers or educators, chalk is also used by artists in their works of art. Chalk is also used in any billiard or pool games – it is a small cube of chalk used in rubbing the tip of a billiard or pool cue to increase its friction with the cue ball.

To know more about chalk – the earth sciences tells us that a chalk is a  a soft fine-grained white sedimentary rock consisting of nearly pure calcium carbonate, containing minute fossil fragments of marine organisms, usually without a cementing material.

                   a bucket of chalk
The freedictionary.com says that a chalk is a soft, white, gray, or yellow limestone consisting mainly of calcium carbonate and formed primarily from the accumulation of fossil microorganisms such as foraminifera and calcareous algae. Chalk is used in making lime, cement, and fertilizers, and as a whitening pigment in ceramics, paints, and cosmetics. The chalk used in classrooms is usually artificial.

DUSTLESS CHALK
The encyclopedia. The freedictionary.com states that chalk is composed mostly of calcium carbonate with minor amounts of silt and clay. It is normally formed underwater, commonly on the sea bed, then consolidated and compressed during digenesis into the form commonly seen today. During digenesis silica accumulates to form chart or flint nodules within the carbonate rock.

The Encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com further states that a chalk is a soft, fine-grained, easily pulverized, white-to-grayish variety of limestone, composed of the shells of minute marine organisms. The purest varieties contain up to 99% calcium carbonate in the form of the mineral calcite. Chalk is used for making lime and Portland cement and as a soil additive. Finely ground and purified chalk is known as whiting and is used as a filler, extender, or pigment in a wide variety of materials, including ceramics, putty, cosmetics, crayons, plastics, rubber, paper, paints, and linoleum. The chalk commonly used in classrooms is a manufactured substance rather than natural chalk.

There may be some other tools to be used by teachers but I believe that the chalk will always be there readily available for use especially by the teachers in the primary grade schools and high school studies. Chalk would still be the favorite tool in writing on the blackboard because it is very affordable and available.

Today it is common for us to see our teachers or classmates discussing using LCD projectors but some are still using the old way “the CHALK and BLACKBOARD” But then what are the advantages and disadvantages of LCD projectors and CHALKS??
